Hay River is located on the south shore of Great Slave Lake. Along with mean temperatures of -24 in January, +16 in July and minimal percipitation, Hay River is considered a cold desert. Summer provides the possibility for many activities such as fishing, boating, golfing and hiking. During the winter snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding are common activities.
